A Clinical Study of Intra-abdominal Tuberculosis

Abstract
we analysed 41 patients who were pathologically proved as intraabdominal tuberculosis and treated at the Department of surgery, Seoul National University Hospital, from Jan, 1981 to Dec. 1990 and the aim of this report is to confirm the
decreasing
annual incidence and to present the treatment guidelines of intraabdominal tuberculosis by analysis the clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of intraabdominal tuberculosis.
@ES The following results were obtained:
@EN 1) The annual incidence was slightly decreased
2) The peak incidence was third decade(34.1%) and the ratio of male to female was 1: 0.86.
3) The frequent symptoms were abdominal pain(75.6%), weight loss(41.5%), nausea, vomiting (34.1%), anorexia(20.3%) ad diarrhea(29.3%), but these were not pathognomic.
4) The frequent physical signs were abdominal tenderness(53.7%), abdominal mass(36.6%) and abdominal distension(26.8%).
5) The average duration of disease was less than 6 months in 27 cases(67%).
6) The routine chest X-ray revealed that 24 patients958.5%) had inactive or active lesion.
7) The correct preoperative diagnosis was possible in 19 cases(46.3%), others were misdiagnosed.
8) The frequent operative rindings were mesenteric lymphadenopathy(66.7%), adhesion(51.3%), multiple tuberles nodules(43.6%) and intestinal obstruction(33.3%).
9) The most common operative operative was right hemicolectomy(24.4%).
10) The postoperative complications were intestinal obstruction(7.7%), wound infection and enterocutaneous fistula and there was no mortality.
